Anni Jones, “Ashland, Oregon”: Fourth of Thirty Three
Like all of the photographers featured in the book, Ashland, Oregon, Anni Jones has her own distinctive style. It doesn’t matter if she’s captured a rock band or a jutting rock in the ocean on the Oregon coast, Anni always gathers ooh’s and ahh’s from admirers. With a twinkle in her eye and a hearty laugh, Anni embraces life through her camera lens. Having grown up and lived in the Rogue Valley all her life, she definitely knows the countryside. She has stood her ground when wild horses bluff-charged her (still clicking the shutter!), sweet talked growling dogs with a bag of treats she always carries in her Jeep, and has not met a person who didn’t become her friend. Anni always has her trusty Nikon with her, “just in case.” One of her favorite quotes by Lewis Hine is: “If I could tell the story in words, I wouldn’t need to lug a camera.” You’ll see Anni out in all kinds of weather, doing what she loves best! She started out as a watercolor painter, and that background gives a soft, painterly quality to her photos. A few years ago, Anni took me on a photo shoot on my birthday. She drove me around the Ashland back roads she knows so well, and some of my favorite memories of that day are included in the Ashland, Oregon book! Wasn’t I pleasantly surprised one day when I turned on the TV and saw Anni in a local commercial. She’s as beautiful and talented behind the camera as she is in front of it!
